Hurricane Claudette is the first Atlantic hurricane of 2003, making landfall on the middle of the Texas coast midday Tuesday, according to the National Hurricane Center (NHC). It was classified as a Category 1 storm with winds maxing out at 80 mph.

Equalizer, Inc. in Victoria, Texas felt the full force of the storm and weathered it well-- at least mostly. There was one building that didn't fair so well. A very large, A-Frame, wooden fertilizer storage with a metal roof, had part of it's roof torn off and it's side walls severely damaged.

The Monolithic Dome bulk fertilizer storages on the property made it through the storms mostly unscathed. However, the debris from the nearby metal building tore a few holes in the Airforms.

Monolithic is sending a crew to repair both the metal building and the tears in the Airforms. Javier Figueroa and Gary Clark will be leading the team of eight workers.

Repair of the metal building will consist of replacing the metal on the roof, reinforcing the end walls and spraying them with shotcrete.

The crew left yesterday around noon.

Editor's note: A very large number of bulk storages are similar to this A-framed wood and metal building. It is common for them to sustain heavy damage during natural disasters.
