O'Dells Offer Year-Round Dome Toursby Freda ParkerNovember 20, 2006
In 2000, Theresa and Patrick O'Dell saw a small, Monolithic Dome ad in Mother Earth News that prompted some big, life-altering changes for them. Tired of paying large utility bills and maintaining a home that, over the years, had become too big and inconvenient for them, the O'Dells began looking into Monolithic Domes. In 2001, Patrick attended a Monolithic Workshop. Three years later, the O'Dells opened their completed Monolithic Dome home to visitors, during the 2004 Dome Tour -- Monolithic's fourth annual but the O'Dells first. They participated again in the 2005 Dome Tour and again this past October. Of the 2006 tour, Theresa said, “We had six very interested parties attend our dome open house this year. Some were dads and their teenage children; one was a lady with her mom, and some were married couples. All were from our area (Harrisonville, Missouri), and they all plan on building a dome home. They really appreciated seeing one up close and personal. One couple had been to other dome homes also.” The O'Dells are convinced that providing folks with an opportunity to actually see and go into a Monolithic Dome is an effective way of increasing awareness and promoting interest in domes. So, they now offer year-round tours of their Monolithic Dome home by appointment. Theresa said, “We would rather do people individually instead of everyone coming in one day. The e-mail to use for contact is patodell@starband.net and the phone number is 816-651-3428.” Note: For a detailed description, with photographs, of the O'Dells' dome-home, please see Downsizing Has Advantages.
